The Mill Pond Mile is a one-mile fun run around the scenic Mill Pond in New London, Minnesota. It takes place each July, before the annual Water Days parade.
The race was started in 2001 by Jim and Shelly Berg to honor the memory of their 10 year old son, Cody, who died in a car-bike accident in 1999. All proceeds go to the Cody Berg Scholarship Fund for college scholarships that are awarded to members of the New London Spicer graduating class each spring.
This is a non-timed event, but those who wish to be timed are encouraged to have a parent or friend bring a stopwatch to record personal bests.
Families with 5 or more members in the same household will receive a 20% discount per registrant. Simply select "Family 5+" at the bottom of the Registrant #1 screen, and the group rate discount will be applied at checkout.
All runners receive:
Thanks to all our generous community members who continue to donate some amazing prizes year after year. If you're interested in donating a door prize for this year's race, please contact us using the Race Contact Info form below.
We are currently looking for sponsors for 2023. Each year, our goal is to raise enough in sponsorship revenues to cover the cost of our T-shirts. That way, all registration fees can go toward the Cody Berg Scholarship Fund. Based on our increasing number of registrants each year (nearly 700 in 2022), we are grateful for any amount you’re willing to give!
All sponsors receive recognition on the Sponsors page of our website, and are included on our race day T-shirts. If you're interested in donating a door prize for our kids drawing, please use the contact form below. Thank you for your consideration and support!
Cody was an energetic, active kid who loved all kinds of outdoor activities, including baseball, hunting, riding go-carts and running. On April 12, 1999, at the age of 10, Cody was hit by a car and died while riding his bike near his home. His parents, Jim and Shelly Berg, along with friends and family, organized the Mill Pond Mile in the hopes that others will always remember the incredible joy that Cody brought to us during his short life.
